Christmas Party Dessert Must!

I was talking to my good friend Nicole yesterday, when we got on the subject of chocolate covered strawberries and she informed me of how easy they were to make. This sparked an interest so I decided to “google” chocolate fondue recipes and found this great one from the Food Network. I never realized how easy it is to create such a wonderful and fun dessert. This is something that everyone should think about having at their holiday parties this year. It is a great way to get people up and chatting with one another and besides, who doesn’t love chocolate?! The recipe  has fruit that can be dipped in the chocolate but you can also dip: cookies, pound cake, pretzels, rice crispy treats (my favorite) and anything else yummy!

Chocolate Fondue

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon brewed espresso
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 banana, peeled and cut into 8 pieces
  • 8 1-inch chunks fresh pineapple
  • 4 strawberries

Directions

Place chocolate, cream, espresso, vanilla and salt in a medium microwave-safe bowl; microwave on Medium, stirring every 20 seconds, until melted, 1 to 2 minutes. (Alternatively, see “No Microwave?” below.)

Pour the chocolate mixture into a serving bowl. Serve with fruit.

If you don’t have an espresso maker, look for instant espresso powder at your supermarket. No Microwave? Place chopped chocolate in the top of a double boiler over hot, but not boiling water. Gently stir until almost melted. Remove from the heat and stir until the chocolate melts completely.
