One of my favorite wedding websites, Weddingchicks.com, features a DIY/printables section with very cute and trendy wedding templates. This is a great way to get those personal touches throughout your event that really make your wedding pop!

One of my favorites is the template for labels on the candy bar (which I consider a must on candy buffets). Usually you will see free, printable labels and they are somewhat generic in their looks, but these are very cute with a slight vintage feel. These particular candy bar labels can be customized with different wording as well as the colors can be changed to match your event/wedding…perfect if you are planning to do your own candy buffet.

A few months back I had the pleasure of doing a candy buffet for a bride with such DIY talent that I was amazed at her wedding day decor, it was stunning. Her name is Melissa Kehayes and her attention to detail is spot on! I was mesmerized by the Manzanita branch centerpieces she created for her wedding…they were truly breathtaking. So much so that she had them sold the minute her wedding reception was over to another bride who drove over an hour to pick them up that very same night. Once you see her beautiful designs you cannot deny the sheer talent that Melissa has…not to mention what a total sweetheart she is. It didn’t surprise me that a few months after her wedding she contacted me to tell me that she had decided to make a business out of creating and designing centerpieces for events and weddings such as the Manzanita branches she had for her wedding. Thus Twigs Design was born!!

I immediately had Melissa create a gorgeous Manzanita branch display this past fall for my bridal show displays…I have used this same display for many other events such as Christmas parties and my hostess for my bridal shower even asked to use it for my wishing tree. It is a purchase that I love and probably my favorite Dulce Prop! My bride’s that have used it for their fall weddings have loved it just as much as I do.

Happy Easter

We wish everyone a very Happy Easter filled with friends, family and fabulous desserts! This year with the baby due in less than a month we are having a very low key Easter celebration with some of our best friends. I am so excited to be able to just relax and enjoy great company! Peeps S’mores for Easter

Ingredients:

peeps
Hershey’s chocolate squares
graham crackers

Directions:

1. Place graham crackers, chocolate and a peep as shown in first picture. Zap in the microwave until soft. (Or place under broiler.)

2. Top with another graham cracker square.

Sparkler Send Offs

If there was one thing I would have added to my wedding it would have been the sparkler send off. I love this idea and think it makes great photos! I am a big believer in the bride and groom leaving the event first and then the guests follow afterwards. Having a sparkler send off is the perfect way for your guests to bid you farewell! This is best done at night…your wedding coordinator should have your guests form two lines so you guys can walk through. You want to make sure you purchase the correct sparklers, I have heard to use 36 inch sparklers since they are longer you avoid burning your fingers. Remember to hold them away from your clothes! I suggest making sure your venue is ok with the use of sparklers and have a pail ready to discard the sticks in afterwards. Lastly, I suggest making sure your photographer has experience with taking photos of sparkler send offs.

Spring Color Trend 2012

Happy spring!! This is by far my most favorite season of the year, even though in Ohio lately it has felt more like summer with this 80+ degree weather. I have started with all my spring cleaning, the windows are open, birds are chirping, flowers are blooming…and I love it all. This is also one of my favorite seasons for weddings!

One thing I really like to take a look at each year is the spring color trends and Pantone (the color experts) have released the spring colors for 2012. I am in love with these colors and could tell by shopping lately that bright colors were going to be in. The more softer more natural tones like Starfish and Driftwood really surprised me but in a great way as I am one for neutral tones. One of the most popular colors with my brides so far for 2012 events is a dark blue, similar to Sodalite Blue with a yellow similar to Solar Power being a close second. I would love to see more events, clothes and decor in the Tangerine color..this is one of my new favorite colors for Spring all around.

I now cannot wait to go shopping!!

A Winter Wedding

I know the last thing we want to think about lately is winter due to this fabulous weather, but I had to share some photos from a candy/coffee buffet I did for a wedding around Valentine’s day. The wedding was for my good friend Lindsey and her fiance Mike, whom I might add are such a perfect couple! They had a smaller, more intimate event so the candy buffet that I did reflected that in being a bit smaller itself…but definitely not lacking in deliciousness. All of the candy itself was red in color and a wide variety from M&M’s to licorice. I also had the pleasure to design a coffee/hot chocolate buffet (which was perfect for this snowy night). This particular buffet included marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, chocolate covered espresso mix, cinnamon sticks etc…This was my first coffee/hot chocolate buffet and I loved designing it and working outside of just candy itself. It was such an honor to be asked to help Lindsey with her special day!

I do have to comment that Lindsey is the most laid back bride I have ever worked with and allowed me to do whatever I wanted…her only request was cherry laffy taffy! :)

Minimally Grand Package

Minimally Grand Package:

This is a very simple package that I wish I would have added at the very beginning of my business, it is going over that well with bride’s. This is a supplies only package where Dulce Designs provides the basics such as: candy jars, scoops, ribbons to match your color/décor, basic candy bags, candy labels etc.. THE BEST PART IS: once jars and scoops are returned within 5 business days from event with no damage then you will be refunded HALF the amount spent on this package. This is a DIY kit where I provide everything supplies wise and you have to set it up/break it down, apply ribbon to jars and scoops, purchase the candy etc. It is a very basic package!

The reason I am now offering this is because there are those few bride’s (I was one of them) who wanted to purchase all their own candy, design it themselves and so on. This package is perfect for that DIY bride that does not want to or may not have the time to spend shopping for jars, scoops, centerpieces and all the items supplies wise necessary for a candy buffet but still wants to have one without breaking the bank! This is a great package but it is not fitting for all bride’s as this does have alot more work involved for the bride rather than a buffet we do 100% of the work for.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s day to all my clients, family and friends! Today is not just about sharing love with your spouse or significant other it is also about showing love and kindness to all those loved one’s in your life. My husband and I usually do not really celebrate Valentine’s day except for a simple card and some carry out…but this year he has decided to take me out to a nice dinner and I could not be more excited for a date night with him, I even bought a new maternity dress!! We are going to Daveed’s at 934 in Mt. Adams, I have never been but have heard great things. I am also secretly hoping that my husband continues the tradition of getting me chocolate covered Oreo’s from Graeters…they are my favorite, that combined with dinner would be a perfect day for me!

Here is a very simple Valentine’s day recipe I wanted to share with you all courtesy of Glendora Patch. Chocolate covered strawberries are a perfect gift to give on this special day or just for you to enjoy yourself!

Ingredients

1 12 oz. package of semi sweet chocolate morsels

1 12 oz. package of white chocolate morsels

½ cups of half and half

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Clean the strawberries, pat dry.

Make sure strawberries are at room temperature.

Have either toothpicks and a block of Styrofoam, or piece of wax paper ready.

Stick toothpicks through the top end of the strawberries.

Leave the leaves on the strawberries

Melt the chocolate morsels in a double boiler. If you don’t have a double boiler, place the chocolate in a Pyrex bowl and place over a small saucepan.

Pour the half and half and the vanilla extract into the melted chocolate and stir.

Dip your strawberries into the mixture.

If you have a Styrofoam block, stick the other end of the toothpick into the Styrofoam to let the strawberry dry. If you just have wax paper, place your strawberries to dry on the wax paper.

Chill the strawberries for about 15-30 minutes in the refrigerator. Do not leave them in the fridge longer, or they will start to look white and chalky.

The Knot Best of Weddings 2012 Pick

We are proud to announce that Dulce Designs has been rated by local brides and voted The Knot Best of Weddings 2012 Pick for the second year in a row. Again this is all because we have awesome bride’s who leave such kind words about us, so a big thank you to all of our past clients! We are so excited to see what 2012 has in store for us, I can already tell there are going to be some fabulous events coming up. Right now is our booking season and this time I really enjoy because it gives me an opportunity to really focus on meeting and getting to know my new clients/brides.

I am also very excited to be doing a Valentine’s day themed candy/coffee/hot chocolate buffet at my good friends Lindsey’s wedding this weekend. This candy buffet will be full of yummy treats (all in the color red) and it is also my first time adding a coffee/hot chocolate station to the buffet. I have been amazed at the delicious and unique items you can add to a hot chocolate and coffee station…I will be sure to post photos soon!
